Well, my cake a week project is well under way. I have posted my very first cake of the year on my Cake-a-Week section here on my Blog. I am very excited to be able to share my cakes & my journey of experimenting different cake flavors, styles, fondants & buttercream. In this weeks project I made a simple made-from-scratch white vanilla cake with plain vanilla buttercream & home-made MMF {marshmallow fondant}.
Making home-made MMF is something I have been wanting to try for a long time now. I have only accustomed myself to using the Wilton store bought fondant because this is what I used when first learning in my cake classes. Of course, store bought is easiest, but the taste is not so great.
SO, with my first cake of the year I decided to try a new recipe that I found on Cake Central, one of my favorite cake websites to learn some great inside information from professional bakers to homemakers who bake for families & friends. When I started putting together the ingredients I first thought to myself, 'WHAT in the world was I thinking??!' But then once I got my hands in the bowl & starting kneading the marshmallows & the sugar, shape started to take form. I also found out that Crisco is my best friend when using my hands!
Listed below are a couple photos I took of before & after... It could have been better, but for my first try with home made MMF, I think it turned out pretty ok.
