To jump start my Blog for Cake Girl, I have came up with an idea that will hopefully motivate myself to make & bake more cakes & cupcakes! I love creating beautiful, scrumptious cakes, but I do not allow myself the time to create some delectable works of art due to my extremely busy schedule. The only time I make to bake my cakes is when I am asked to do so for an event or birthday, etc, where its necessary I make the time to put together these requested cakes for these occasions.
SO, with that said, I have come up with a plan & made myself a schedule {which lately, I am all about schedules!} & I have blocked out certain times during my busy work week to begin my new project. I plan to utilize one hour (or two) of one evening & commit myself to just 'baking' my cakes. This way I can try out some different recipes to help me gather a good favorite list of cake flavors. Every cake baker has a favorite list of the most yummiest of cakes of their choosing & shares them with their clients...
On the other nights of the week, depending on the style of cake I will be making, I will also use an hour, or two, for my decorations to go on my cake or cupcakes. For this I will be using gum-paste, fondant & even buttercream to make flowers, characters, bows, etc. Making these a few days ahead will allow enough time for drying to set my pieces so they can be used on my completed creation once I apply either buttercream or fondant finishes when me cake is completed.
Each week, once I am finished with my creation, I will post finished photos on each cake I have made under my 'A Cake A Week' tab. On some cakes, I will even post how Ive made them in a tutorial displaying ingredients, each step of the process as well as useful websites where I get a lot of my inspiration & recipes. These will be located in my 'Tutorial' tab.
I hope this not only inspires me, but you as well, to get baking!! I would love it if you all shared your works of art as well!
Happy Baking!

Welcome! | The Cake Girl
Hello!
I wanted to take a moment & welcome you all to my Blog!
I am very excited to be opening up a new chapter in my life. I am currently a Photographer & own my very own photography business here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Over the years, I have taken an interest in cake decorating as well as photography. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved my sweets!! I admit it, I have a sweet tooth...who doesn't?!
A little history--
...back when I was a little girl I loved two things; the Disney movie 'Pollyanna' & the pink cake box that was tied with a white string completed with a perfectly tied bow on top. In that box was a scrumptious vanilla flavored cake that had pink & white buttercream roses & read, 'Happy Birthday Tammy' written in pink gel across the top of the cake. I'm sure most of you know what I am talking about. :-) It was delivered to me on every Birthday from my parents as far back as I can remember {well, until they stopped using the pink cake boxes, that is, & went to plastic containers.... :-( }.
I think that is where my early interest in cake decorating originally came about...
It wasn't until I worked at Walt Disney World at the renowned Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom that I really took an interest in more than just eating cake & tasting buttercream. While working at the restaurant, I watched our Master Chefs create such delicious food & make magic out of cakes! I, too, wanted to learn how, so I signed up for a class & since then have been putting together works of art in the form of Cakes for my family, friends & co-workers as a hobby.
With this Blog, my plan is to post my latest creations & cakes from cake shows I have entered, PLUS, I would like to add posts for fellow cake decorators, old & new, & share recipes, inspiration photos & 'how-to' tutorials on the things I am asked most frequently on how I have created.
I hope you all like what you see & follow my Blog....
